ABOUT US

 

The future of learning is here and at New Sardis Virtual Learning School, we want to make this new evolution of learning as smooth as possible. Virtual learning simply means that a significant portion of learning activities and instruction are online and time traditionally spent in the classroom is reduced, but not eliminated. This new learning approach is gaining momentum and will change the online education landscape as we know it today. Microsoft Team is the online platform chosen by the local school district, and will be used to support learning. So, whether your child is a pro at technology or simply a novice, we can help!

OUR MISSION

 

Our mission is to provide a safe, virtual learning environment that stimulates your child’s imagination beyond the traditional classroom. Our caring teachers are here to serve our students’, aligning them to the school districts’ educational goals and curriculum. This will ensure that students stay on track while meeting the academic requirements set forth by their corresponding school district’s curriculum.

What to Expect
​

  • Small classroom sizes to meet social distancing requirements

  • Students do their work in a learning lab where facilitators monitor the room and support the student regarding any connectivity or IT issues

  • Students can work on their coursework and communicate with their teachers outside of the normal classroom hours 

  • Self-management: It is ultimately the students’ responsibility to remain attentive and engaged with the online teacher while receiving virtual instruction

  • An annotated schedule inclusive of breaks (handwashing, brain breaks, restroom, lunch, etc.), gross motor activities, social-emotional learning activities should be adhered to at all times as this will help organize the day’s learning

  • A safe learning environment that fosters learning and a sense of community

  • At this time, we do not currently plan to extend this model beyond this school year. This is intended to provide an option for those who need it.

  • We know how trying these times are and are fully committed to pursuing the same excellence with this virtual model as we do in all things.

  • This is a fundamentally new approach to teaching and learning and so the structure of this model will adapt and evolve.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

  • Students should show respect to all peers and adults

  • Students should refrain from use of profanity or any racial slurs

  • Students should refrain from bullying any member of staff, faculty, or student body

  • Students should come to school prepared with all of his/her materials; no instructional materials will be provided by NSVLS

  • Students should adhere to all requirements of their online instructor to include attendance, participation, completing classwork, homework, etc.

  • Students should maintain the integrity of technology when in use

  • Students should adhere to all social distancing guidelines

  • Students should wear a mask at all times and wash hands frequently throughout the day and at designated times

STUDENT INFRACTIONS

  • Failure to adhere to these student expectations can and will be dismissed from the program without reservations

  • 1st offense: Student will be given a verbal warning

  • 2nd offense: Student will receive a written warding

  • 3rd offense: Student will conference with parents, teachers, and administration

  • 4th offense: Student will be dismissed from the program
